No child should be separated from their family. That’s why Kurt sponsored legislation to end family separation and reunite migrant children with their parents. But that’s only the first step to smart, comprehensive immigration reform that not only reflects our values, but strengthens our economy.
The Dreamers, undocumented immigrants brought to the U.S. as children, grew up here and share our common American goals. They are scholars and job creators, artists, and activists. They enrich our country, but most of all, the United States is their home, and they should be allowed to remain.
For our country’s entire history, immigrants from around the world have brought innovation, new businesses, and cultures to our country, hoping for opportunity and freedom in return. Many undocumented people are working in America right now, paying taxes, abiding by the law, and contributing to their communities. Kurt believes we should create a path to citizenship for undocumented immigrants who have a job, pay taxes, and do not have a criminal record. That’s why Kurt is an original sponsor of the bipartisan Farm Workforce Modernization Act 2019, which provides a roadmap for permanent legal residence for the agricultural workers who feed America. Alongside a path to citizenship, Kurt believes in the bipartisan potential of improving the legal immigration system and implementing modern approaches to border patrol.
